I don’t know what I’m doing here…

So, I created a Zazzle account, and “designed” a t-shirt. My first of a few ideas…. Someday I want to get a silk screen press and do my own REAL designs (not just text) but until then… I digress.

On my other blog, my man had to help me dig through code to insert the code Zazzle gave for my product. Lemme tell you how easy it was…

I went to my “dashboard”, clicked on “presentation”, and clicked on “widgets”. I dragged a text widget to “Sidebar 1″… clicked on the image to the right of the text widget and inserted the code from Zazzle…and clicked “update”. Voila!

I know enough code to put to make words bold, line-through, italicize, create pargraphs, add pictures, and maybe a few other codes… but SORTING through a bunch of code (even if some is familiar) is a whole other beast. And now with the tools available, I don’t NEED to know - or remember how to code those things… I just highlight and click. Not to mention the widgets in WordPress are awesome. Stinkin’ beautiful… like my t-shirt says :)

how much I don’t know.

The more I consider all that I COULD learn, the more overwhelemd I feel.

I guess I need to first tackle the basics of setting up my site. This is pretty basic, and it’s up. I can write and write. The page I wirite my post on has all my cheater HTML so I can bold, italic, bold italic, line-through, line-through bold italic…

  • With my cheater buttons in place I can bullet…

Line my text to the left

Line my text to the right

I can link to other sites…

But what is this CSS? My hubby tried to explain it. I felt a strong urge to open up a magazine and look at the pretty pictures.

Why is this important? It’s not, unless you are like me… I feel some sense of noble creative pain when I see I was up at 2 a.m. posting. It’s just not the same depserate message if my post about not being able to sleep posts at 9 a.m. Then I just look like a lazy slob. I know what you’re thinking…

I already have ablog. I have this blog because I am married to a wonderful man who is not only amazingly creative, but is also very technically savvy. He’s a genius with a computer. I, however, am like a bull in a china shop, or maybe like the Brady Bunch. Remember when they went to Hawaiiand found that idol and… Never mind…

In fact, my husband Paul was just saying the other day he’d like to give me his computer. The plan would be that while it would become mine, we would never call it mine. We would always refer to it as “my husband’s computer” so the little fairies of Commuter Anomaly Land would leave me the heck alone. I am stricken.

Some problems are due to user error - I am certain. But I am certain there are little beings that enter my technological devices and play little tricks on Jenny… They do this so I will hold fast to my belief that inanimate objects plot and conspire against me.

So, here I am, tempting the sprites of Inanimate Objects and All Things Technological as I venture out on my own. In this blog, I will try to create my own space on my own. Well… kind of. I will reference places to guide me, and will be picking my husband’s brain… but I will not let him touch a key or a letter of code. No matter how hard it will be not to, or how easy it would be just to let him do “one thing”… Let’s see if I can break this spell and maybe someday I will earn the right to genuinely call myself a “techie” - if only in the blog world…

Until then, I cry… “Techie Schmechie!”
